Glebe Culottes Hack 02

Pattern/Technique: Muna & Broad Glebe pants, size ii/D, view A

Modifications: Reduced leg length to make culottes. (Took the standard Glebe pattern and overlaid the Ninni Culotte at the outer seam to determine optimal length, then used the hemming instructions from the Ninni pattern. For this pair, I traced the top section of the pant, then aligned the inner seam at the shorten mark to get more width in the leg.) Used 38” of elastic with 1” overlap for waistband.

Materials: 2.5 yds (44” wide) Kaufman Essex navy homespun

New skills: n/a

Lessons: Vacation sewing is awesome! I cut these out at home, packed the pattern pieces + elastic into a ziploc bag, and tucked them into my suitcase for a trip back to Alberta and sewed them while on vacation. It was a really nice way to get some crafting in while hanging out with my mom in her sewing room.

I also used my mom’s fancy-ass Bernina sewing machine & serger to work on these. It was my first time using a computerized Bernina machine and it really struck me how a sewing machines is such a matter of personal preference. For example, I really missed the drop in bobbins, automatic threader, and reverse behavior on my home Pfaff machine.

What I'd do differently: I didn’t fold under the waistband enough to catch the underside while stitching in the ditch, so I have some raw edges that I need to fix.

Care: Machine wash cold, dry flat.

Glebe Pants 03 - Black Mora Slub Linen

Pattern/Technique: Muna & Broad Glebe Pants, size ii/D, View A

Modifications: Added 5 inches length at bottom hem. Folded a double hem (1” for first fold, then 1.5” for second fold). Used 38” of elastic at waist, with 1” overlap.

Materials: 3.25 yds black mora slub linen/rayon blend (58” width)

New skills: n/a

Lessons: The linen / rayon blend was really nice to work with - the rayon provided a lovely drape and the linen provided some structure which was far easier to sew than 100% rayon.

What I'd do differently: There was definitely some weirdness that happened with the cuff hems getting twisted and distorted while I was pinning and sewing them, but with the black drapey fabric it’s really hard to notice, so I’m leaving them be for now.

Care: Machine wash, lay flat to dry
