Weaving Class Sampler 03 (Tapestry)

Pattern/Technique: n/a

Materials:

  • Reed size: 12 dent

  • Warp: Brassard Natural Cotton Seine Twine #12

  • Weft: Harrisville Designs Highland in White, Silver Mist, Charcoal

New skills: Various tapestry weaving techniques including: rug knots, vertical seams, pick and pick, soumak, diagonals, making weft butterflies

Lessons/Notes: Most of the techniques used on this piece were woven in class as I followed along with the various techniques we were taught. I was inspired by the tapestry work of Allyson Rousseau and wanted to try a little puffy ombré square as part of this piece. I first wove a square shape, then used bits of scrap yarn which I knotted around the warp using rug knots. Once I had a dense fill, I trimmed the ends to give the square more definition.

What I'd do differently: Much like plain weave, I want to practice getting my tension even along my selvedges.
