Taina Wrap

Pattern/Technique: Taina Wrap by Eeva Kesäkuu

Modifications: Not technically a mod, but I ended up knitting approx 2.75 repeats of the pattern which consumed the full skein of Uneek.

Materials: 1 skein of Uneek Fingering by Erth Yarns in color 3010. US 8 needle for cast on, US 7 needle for main body.

New skills: n/a

Lessons/Notes: This yarn sat in my closet for a while and unfortunately got attacked by clothes moths, so there were quite a few breaks. I ended up overlapping the strands and knitting double at the breaks. I’ll definitely look into storage bins for the future to prevent more yarn casualties.

Morning Walk Hat: Sunrise Edition

Pattern/Technique: Morning Walk Hat by Ann Patterson, size large

Modifications: knit first section using US 3 needle to 3.5” then switched to larger needle size. Knit until hat measured 13” from cast on edge.

Materials: US 3 & US 4 16” circular knitting needles

2 skeins (total) Handmaiden Casbah in Sangria held double

New skills: Knitting with variegated yarn

Lessons/Notes: This was the first hat I’ve made using variegated yarn, and I was trying to avoid pooling as much as possible, so I held 2 strands of yarn together (the original hat pattern calls for holding 2 strands of fingering weight) and then kept an eye on whether the colors were too similar between the 2 strands. If they became too similar I would break one strand and offset it before reattaching it.
